"Arges jacket "
Got one in 2017 and loved it enough to wear it for more than hunting. Thought I should get a new one so I have one for hunting and one for around home. The one in 2017 was .96 lbs and the new one is 1.34. It has 2 extra zippers, different cuffs and a little different design. Unsure if the extra features are worth the weight.
Well made. I heard they were noisy but I don’t think game can hear it, certainly not with just simple movements. Wish it was warmer. No doubt warm for size and weight but I thought it would have been more heavily weighted with more down fill. That said it seems to keep me pretty warm
It is always in my pack unless it is on my person. This is the most used piece of my layering system. It packs down to nothing, weighs about the same, and makes the difference between glassing comfortably for hours, or shivering for minutes till you have to get up to avoid freezing. Its also teh first piece of gear to go on at camp and probably the last before getting in the bag - on super cold nights in elk camp, it stays on.
"Must have for glassing."
Runs a little big, I'm 6'2", 205 and I tried on and got the medium. I like a more athletic cut, and the medium is great. Zips all the way up to provide a face covering, super comfy, super warm, very packable. Must have for the cold mornings glassing for quarry.
This is the best layer in my pack! Very light, packable, super warm and comfortable! Must have...
"versatile and warm"
i recently went through and updated all of my hunting apparel. and this was my thermal layer of choice. it is light weight, quite, and super warm. i have worn it under my shell and sat in a cold New Hampshire tree stand and thrown it over all of my gear as a stay warm layer while glassing. the hood is a great fit and allows you to move with out limiting the range of motion and vision. all in all, my only wish with this lacket would have a bit more down fill to increase the loft. when sitting for a while the down settles and leaves me with cold spots around the elbows and shoulders. but, i still give this coat a 5 star review. i am 5'11" and 180 lbs. i have an athletic/fit body shape and i opted for a large to accommodate layers. and i primarily wanted this to be my outer most layer over my kit while glassing, and it fits that niche.
This is one of the most comfortable and warm jackets made. Whether in the field glassing or running around town doing your daily errands it is awesome. I bought one in highlander and one in typhon. Thanks guys.
Last weekend there was a major coldfront that moved in from Canada...It was a complete white out of snow and temperatures that were well below zero here in Montana. Fortunately, I had received this Jacket as a gift for my birthday the week prior to this hunt, and it literally made all the difference! I was extremely lucky to have this jacket in my pack...Lets just say that my buddies who where on the trip were jealous as hell, and I am confident that the first thing they did when they got home was place an order for themselves!...Extremely Warm, Great Product!
Took the Ares Jacket out glassing a couple times in weather down in the low 20s. I stayed very warm with the Ares Jacket over the Sherpa hoodie as my mid layer and Hoplite LW Longsleeve as a base layer. I'm 6' 2" 180lb. The Large size fits perfect!
