Coastal Conservation Association

Our Goal

In 1977 in a lone Houston outdoors store, a group of passionate anglers were expressing their concern for what they observed as the downward trajectory in catch rates in Texas coastal fisheries. This squad of “saltwater soldiers” then founded what is now the Coastal Conservation Association(CCA) to help combat these challenges.

Fast forward to 1989, and these same men…outdoorsmen all...were contemplating how their fishery objectives could become victories into the future, and continue to grow their ranks. Thus, the State of Texas Anglers Rodeo(STAR) was born.

STAR’s mission since the onset is to recruit more like-minded anglers into the CCA ranks. The strategy works. Each year, over 50,000 dedicated fishermen join up to compete for over $1,000,000 in prizes and scholarships. Over $7,000,000 in college scholarships have been awarded to Texas youth so far. Yet being able to give away $325,000 of free college each and every year is a tall task and that’s where Kryptek comes in—by supporting the future of marine conservation in this country.

It is only through the help of partners like Kryptek that STAR is made possible.

Mission accomplished!

Our Programs

CCA’s unmatched breadth and depth of volunteer involvement has made it the largest marine conservation group of its kind. Beyond the tangible accomplishments seen in state and federal legislatures and fisheries management councils, commissions and panels, CCA’s proactive presence defeats many ill-conceived proposals before they bloom. CCA and its state organizations are engaged in hundreds of different programs and projects related to conservation at all times. These programs and projects include scientific studies, scholarship funding, artificial reefs, hatcheries, contaminate studies, hydrology studies, freshwater inflows, and support of local enforcement agencies and others.
